Here is a big lie: writing, for me, has always been exciting and easy. Although I use these three tricks I’m going to show you now to avoid hitting a wall anytime I need to be creative, I always put effort into being open-minded throughout the writing process. This is something you’ll always need to have; the grit to stay and hold on to an idea and the maturity to let some ideas go.
#1 BOREDOM IS KEY
Whether you always need to write a lot every day or you only write once in a while, create a fixed time for writing, like 20 minutes every 30 minutes each day for a total of 2-3 hours. And during that duration, you must do nothing else. You might need a timer for this. This works for me because since I can’t do anything else during the 20 minutes, I’ll have to stare at my screen. And when I stare at my screen long enough, I’ll get bored. And when I get bored, I’ll have to come up with an idea, which I most likely always do.
Whenever I find it hard to be creative while writing a copy, it is most likely due to the fact that I do not have enough information about what I’m trying to market, or to whom I’m trying to market to, or the benefits of what I want to market. You see, research is the fuel for writing. It provides your craft with a sea to sail on. For every copywriting gig I take on, I take a lot of time to read as much as I can about the product and the consumer. This gives me enough juice to squeeze when doing the writing.
#3 CRITIQUE OTHER WORKS
A very useful trick to avoid writer’s block is reading other copy or content similar to the kind you are currently writing in order to ethically criticize it. By suggesting what more could be done or taken down in order to make the work better, you would be helping your mind create an unlimited stream of ideas. Be very careful not to use or copy the “similar content” as you would most likely be successful at your own writing gig as a result of the research you conduct about the product and your audience.
Writer’s block can be a thorn in the soul. lol. It is my very hope that you practice this tricks to overcome it.
If you’d like me to write for you, send me an email here. Ciao.
